Seattle University Link
United States, Seattle, WA
2011 – 2012
Three months ahead of schedule

In March and April 2012, three months ahead of schedule, the goal had already been reached: the two Herrenknecht EPB Shields for the University Link crossed the target line at Capitol Hill, successfully completing their tunnelling mission. At that time, the machines had already excavated 3.5 kilometers of tunnel each.

The tunnel route runs from the University of Washington to downtown Seattle, crossing beneath highway 520, the Montlake Shipping Canal and densely built-up urban areas. The extension of Seattle's city train line, which is relieving the city center of aboveground traffic, leads through the parallel tunnels.
