Switches & platforms

Smoothing the way for traffic in tunnels

All advantages at a glance:

  • Optimized tunnel logistics: enabling continuous transportation of materials and people.
  • Adaptability: modular design, flexibly adaptable to tunnel requirements.
  • Increased safety: reduction of maneuvers and improvement of transport routes.
  • Space efficiency: maximum use of limited space in the tunnel.
  • Robustness and durability: designed for high loads and long life cycles.

Switches and platforms from Herrenknecht significantly improve logistical workflows in tunnels. Whether for guiding rail vehicles, maneuvering trucks and other rubber-tired vehicles or as a platform for work and storage – these solutions are designed to make tunnel logistics efficient, safe and smooth. With sophisticated technology and modular design, the structures adapt to any project requirement, helping to minimize operational interruptions and costs.

Switches & platforms

California switch and trailing switch

Flexibility for rail traffic in tunnels

The California switch and the trailing switch allow two rail vehicles to pass on a single-track line, thus increasing the efficiency of tunnel logistics. They are available in symmetrical or asymmetrical versions and offer an integrated parking area for emergency vehicles. Thanks to their modular design, they can be easily installed in the tunnel and flexibly adapted.

Flyover

Flexibility and functionality in the tightest of spaces

This flyover enables rubber-tired vehicles to overtake in the tunnel or serves as a work platform for cross passages and tunnel work. Equipment such as rescue chambers, injection or dosing systems can be positioned and operated on it. The modular design facilitates assembly and adapts flexibly to the curve radius of the tunnel. With a diesel-hydraulic drive and separately steerable axles, the flyover can avoid obstacles. For special requirements, the flyover can also be split into two halves.

Rail switch

Agility and precision for rail transport

Rail-bound vehicles are used to transport people, excavated material, segments and other tunnel construction materials. Whether to bypass tunnel obstacles or for two trains to meet: switches improve the maneuverability of trains in tunnels. Depending on tunnelling requirements, the design, dimensions, track gauge, curve radius and other factors of the switches can be individually adapted. In addition, the switches are modular in design to enable simple and uncomplicated installation in the tunnel.

Turntables

Reduce operating costs thanks to optimized workflows

Turntables are used for turning trucks and other rubber-tired vehicles, as well as for driving over MSVs. They improve logistics by maximizing available space, increasing safety and reducing vehicle wear. They enable efficient maneuvering in cramped spaces, speed up loading and unloading and reduce operating costs. Turntables also improve site accessibility, reduce environmental impact by minimizing empty runs and support a smooth flow of traffic.
