Plants

The silent heroes behind the TBM

All advantages at a glance:

  • Modular and compact design: ideal for space-saving and flexible deployments.
  • Seamless integration: connected to the Herrenknecht.Connected digital platform for maximum transparency.
  • Maximum efficiency: automated control and innovative technologies to reduce energy and operating costs.
  • Reliability: high-quality components for consistent performance in all conditions.
  • Wide range of applications: adapted to different requirements and tunnel boring machines.

Our special plants and systems are the indispensable “background performers” of tunnelling. They play an important role in keeping the highly developed TBM technology running smoothly at all times. From cooling and compressed air supply to grout mixing, they enable optimal working conditions for machines and teams. At the same time, they help protect the equipment and provide safe support pressure at the tunnel face.

Herrenknecht Plants

Water cooling plants

Constant temperature control for smooth tunnelling

The cooling system supplies the TBM with water at a constant temperature, usually in closed circuits. During the advance, it cools heated components of the TBM via a heat exchanger and returns the heated water. Thanks to an evaporative cooler, the system always operates within the optimum temperature range. The insulated container minimizes temperature fluctuations and the 24 m³ water tank serves as buffer storage for extended pipelines. Pressure boosting systems compensate for pressure losses and provide a constant supply of cooling water. They can be controlled manually, automatically or directly from the TBM via Herrenknecht.Connected and allow full data acquisition.

Bi-component mixing plants

The perfect grout for backfilling

Two-component grout is a binding agent ideal for backfilling the annular gap between the segment and the subsoil. It consists of water, bentonite and cement as well as retarder and accelerator additives. The right mixture is crucial for quality and durability. Mixing plants from Herrenknecht have won over customers worldwide with their performance, reliability and compact container design.

Compressed air plants

Compressed air for maximum safety

Compressed air plants supply the TBM with filtered compressed air. It is essential that enough air is always available for work under pressure on the cutting wheel, e.g. when checking and replacing the cutting tools. With the Mixshield and the Variable Density TBM, even sudden pressure and volume fluctuations can be compensated for very precisely thanks to tunnel face support via an automatically controlled air cushion.
