Belt conveyor systems in operation
Several hundred meters of newly excavated tunnel a week are not uncommon in mechanized tunnelling, depending on the geology. The belt conveyors for removing the excavated soil or rock must keep pace. A reliable belt conveyor system as a seamless interface between the tunnel boring machine and the jobsite aboveground is thus an essential factor. With its many years of experience and in close cooperation with the customers, the Herrenknecht subsidiary H + E Logistik GmbH manufactures powerful belt conveyor systems that are exactly tailored to the needs of the tunnelling process.
Fast, far and flexible
The transport of excavated material on belt conveyor systems is the most direct and often the most cost-efficient way. With high advance rates and excavation diameters of 8 to 9 meters, the daily amount of rock or soil excavated can exceed 10,000 cubic meters. Another challenge is the conveying distance that becomes longer, the further tunnelling progresses, and individual distances of up to 15 kilometers are possible. To extend the belt during operation, horizontal or vertical belt conveyor storage systems are used, depending on the space available on the jobsite. If the tunnel portal is located below the jobsite surface, for example in a shaft, vertical belt conveyors or ascending belts transport the excavated material to the surface. So-called stacking systems are located here and these are precisely adapted to the jobsite conditions for the optimal stacking of the excavated material.
Safety first
Efficient belt conveyor systems are high-tech systems. They keep personnel costs and the risk of accidents to a minimum at extremely high conveying capacities. The belts convey enormous amounts of excavated material to its destination point with great precision. Safety is also ensured even when driving along curves with a tight radius. For this purpose, additional drives are installed before the individual curves. These tunnel boosters reduce the forces that act on the belt. In this way, the excavated material can be transported safely around even the tightest curves. For long straight routes, the boosters provide extra thrust and have a positive impact on the efficiency of the belt conveyor systems.
Keeping pace with tunnelling
With an efficient back-up logistics system, tunnel boring machines can reach their full potential. Depending on the jobsite requirements and conditions, high-tech tunnel belt conveyor systems from H + E Logistik, which are specifically tailored to the respective conveying volumes, ensure the smooth removal of the excavated material. They are closely aligned to the requirements of the tunnel boring machine and thus vital for the success of a project.
