Herrenknecht helps children with cancer
Freiburg, October 09, 2012. In early July, Dr.–Ing. E. h. Martin Herrenknecht invited more than 2,000 guests to the Baden Arena in Offenburg under the motto of "Think positive! Together we are building our future." The occasion was not only the 35th anniversary of the company specializing in tunnelling technology but also the founder's milestone birthday.
Dispensing with birthday gifts, he requested donations to the Friends of Children with Cancer instead. Employees and customers then transferred around 54,000 Euro directly to the association's account. The Works Council succeeded in collecting a further 3,000 Euro at the Schwanau location. Martin Herrenknecht contributed more than 30,000 Euro on top.
"We share responsibility for the future of our children", he claimed and continued: "We should also take this opportunity to remember those who don't live on the sunny side of life." The fact that this motto is lived within the company had already been demonstrated by trainees at Herrenknecht AG: in cooperation with the German Red Cross Blood Donation Headquarters, they had contributed the full proceeds of in-company blood donations to the association.
The Friends of Children with Cancer sincerely thanked the entrepreneur for the donation that they seldom receive in this size and that is a great sign of confidence in the organization. The Friends of Children with Cancer is particularly active in the region. Apart from a kindergarten for siblings and a house for parents at the University Children's Hospital in Freiburg, the association also supports research and technical equipment at the university hospital.
